Internet Addiction Treatment

Everyone has a somewhat secret addiction to the draw of the Internet. There are addiction treatment help available for such addiction. The Internet is very addictive, be it to check our email, check our finances or just to play a game to pass the time.

But I am here to report on a new “fad." It is a website that is a new addiction on a worldwide scale. It adds thousands of members daily and currently holds millions of members. It is gaining popularity so fast that Sony recently recognized its appeal and offered to buy out the owner--who goes by the name of Tom--over a million dollars for rights to the site. This web site I am referring to is known as www.MySpace.com.

Teenagers, young adults, older men and woman, and even the elderly spend several hours a day chatting online through myspace.com. Surprisingly, most of these individuals are used to this type of behavior. Whether it is a dating site, filling out survey, viewing their horoscopes, there is always something to do online. This behavior becomes addictive. It may come as a surprise, but there are several addiction treatment help available for this type of behavior.

Even more surprising, there are groups and toll free numbers for individuals to call if they believe they are addicted to the Internet and wish to seek addiction treatment. Some may believe that this is a harmful addiction and couldn’t hurt anyone. However, this addiction is a lot more serious than it seems. People with this addiction will focus all of their time to surfing the Internet. More than 20% fall victims of identity theft. Not to mention, the time spent is taken from other more productive uses.

Individuals who do not seek addiction treatment may find themselves falling behind at work or school. Though the Internet can be fun and contains a world of creativity, one should really limit its use. Try to set limits for the amount of time you will spend online per day or per week. If you feel that you are developing a problem, you should seek addiction treatment immediately.
