Anxiety Depression

Anxiety depression is basically an uneasiness of mind caused by apprehension or fear. The feeling of anxiety, in itself, is perfectly normal and as such do not pose any threat to one’s physical or mental health. However when this feeling of anxiety or apprehension becomes chronic, and associated with generalized anxiety disorders, it begins to interfere with our normal functions and abilities, and gradually anxiety depression sets in.

People with an anxiety disorder exhibit a number of physical symptoms. General body fatigue, dizziness, sweating, dryness in the mouth, palpitations of the heart,  a tingling sensation in the limbs of the body, hot flashes and or sudden chills, etc. These people are prone to tantrums and easily feel irritated and over apprehensive. Anxiety depression even makes the most ordinary daily routine like attending functions, going out of their homes, getting in a car, or even opening a door a frightening ordeal.

However, Anxiety can become excessive and unhealthy as it reaches the proportions of a panic attack or other types of anxiety disorders as follows:
• Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
• Social Phobia or Social Anxiety Disorder
• Panic Disorders
• Generalized Anxiety Disorder
• Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

Anxiety depression and manic depression are illnesses that can be treated very successfully with a combination of psychotherapy and medication. Anti-anxiety medications, anti-depressants, mood stabilizers and other medications aimed at alleviating symptoms are widely available. In cases of depression where other treatments have failed or are not possible, electroconvulsive therapy has been used with success.

Anxiety and changing moods are part of everyone's life. That is a fact that should help us understand those in need of expert advice and encourage them to seek treatment. Anxiety keeps many feeling frightened and alone. Anxiety depression, many doctors believe, is the underlying cause of most suicides. Manic depression is a psychiatric illness which when treated allows people to return to lead creative, steady lives. With proper treatment, the suffering can end. There is more than just hope for success, there is abundant evidence of it. Lives can be reclaimed.

Psychologists today treat serious mental disorders and they also provide services for various reasons as well. Even as we feel lost or empty in today’s world which emphasizes superficiality and immediate gratification, it should be understood that a healthy, meaningful, and spiritual life can be the core of human existence. Anyone can benefit from psychological services that enhance and maintain physical and mental health, and that promote honesty and intimacy in our daily life.
