The issues surrounding whether or not pregnancy termination
is a case of murder are both controversial and
inflammatory.  There are very few people who do not have
passionate views which come down on one side of the
argument or the other.  Some of those who oppose
terminating a pregnancy do so from a religious stance and
others do it from a scientific one. 

From those who oppose pregnancy termination, we hear about
the rights of the baby, fundamental rights to life.  But we
rarely hear about the rights of the woman from these same
people.  Whereas termination may be an easy route out of an
awkward situation for some women, for others, making the
decision to terminate their baby's life isn't one they take
so easily.

Is it ever right to carry out a pregnancy termination  The
radical pro life movement would say absolutely not.
Termination is murder, the situation doesn't matter.
However there have to be situations where this is not a
case of black and white extremes.  In most controversial
subjects there is a certain amount of grey but in the case
of pregnancy termination there seems very little support
for the middle ground.

When a twelve year old child is molested by her father and
becomes pregnant, the father committed the crime, but
unless pregnancy termination attitudes and laws are
changed, the child will become a mother.  Where is that
child's rights  What about rape victims who are already
victims of a physical attack, do they also deserve to be
emotionally attacked by those who have never stood in their
shoes

A woman becomes pregnant by choice.  A mother already, she
finds during her pregnancy that she has health problems
which will prove fatal unless a pregnancy termination takes
place.  This goes against everything she believes in, and
yet she has young children who need her, and if the
pregnancy continues neither she nor the baby will survive.

There are a number of situations where changes need to be
made in both the pregnancy termination laws, and the way
society reacts to termination.  Whilst it should never be
accepted as a quick fix for a mistake which should never
have been made, attitudes must change to allow that there
are situations which result in an unplanned for or
dangerous pregnancy where termination is the right course
of action.
